Tesla has launched a comprehensive safety dashboard to support its bid for EU-wide approval of its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) technology. The company is aiming to secure a favorable vote from European regulators as early as October.
Tesla is intensifying its efforts to bring its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) technology to the European market. As of early September 2026, the company has released a detailed safety evidence dashboard, which it hopes will convince European Union regulators to grant broader approval for the system. This move comes ahead of a critical committee vote expected on October 6, which could determine the future of the technology across the bloc.
To support its application, Tesla has compiled extensive data from both its North American fleet and its European engineering vehicles. The company reports that across more than 100 million kilometers of driving in Europe, vehicles using FSD (Supervised) were involved in significantly fewer crashes compared to manually driven Teslas equipped with standard active safety features. The dashboard includes metrics on collision rates, lane-change safety, and performance in complex urban scenarios like roundabouts and intersections.
Beyond technical data, Tesla is engaging in direct diplomacy to clear regulatory hurdles. Reports indicate that Elon Musk met personally with French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot on September 2. France has historically been one of the more cautious EU members regarding autonomous driving technology, and this high-level meeting underscores the importance Tesla places on the French market as a gateway to wider European adoption.
Tesla’s strategy relies on the principle of mutual recognition within the EU. By securing a provisional type approval from one member state—such as the Netherlands—the company aims to leverage EU regulations to expand that approval to other countries. If the October vote succeeds, it would require support from at least 15 of the 27 member states, representing a majority of the bloc's population.
For investors, the European market represents a massive growth opportunity for Tesla’s software-driven revenue model. Successfully navigating the EU’s stringent safety and regulatory environment would not only validate the company's safety claims but also unlock a significant new customer base, potentially boosting vehicle sales and software subscriptions in one of the world's most important automotive regions.
